If you're looking for resources on a specific tracker, it would be
helpful to know which one you had in mind, otherwise in general, youtube has some great resources.
Yeah I'd say at this point, the easiest point of entry for "guides" or
learning resources are just searching your chosen tracker on youtube. Doing this there's step-by-step videos for just about all current, and some
oldschool trackers, their layouts, and getting started guides.
As far as standard practices go, I remember back in the day the way I became familiar with Scream Tracker 3 and Impulse Tracker was to find a track I
really dug, pull all the samples from it, start fresh and attempt to recreate it. That way I wasn't just trying to pull greatness out of thin air, and I
was starting to train myself to be able to have a tune in my head and try to transpose it back into the tracker. This method cuts out the creativity & frustration part, and just gets you to learn how to operate the tracker
itself, and get your ideas on to paper so to speak.
I never ended up being a dope tracker artist, but this at least allowed me to become familiar with the software and learn my way around it :P
